This story has been developing for over 10 years. I was disappointed in the new Future Trunks story arc in Dragon Ball Super. I feel like they did him a real disservice both in his character and how his story ended. My rendition of his character development along with the continuation of his story is much more satisfying. Trunks is quite complex. He learned a lot about saiyan pride from his father but is still deeply connected to his humble origins. He keeps his personal feelings (except for anger) very much to himself and doesn't try much to connect with anyone for fear of losing those he cares about. This is creates a major conflict when he meets Celari, a fellow saiyan who is much more straightforward without shame. The entirety of The Future of Trunks focuses on his struggles of being the earth's sole protector, but also how to accept help and learn to finally let people back in.
